Yeah, since I accidentally stayed up Sunday night to watch Bebop, I'm on another Bebop kick. So, I watched the movie again. I tried to watch it in French, but that just wasn't gonna work out.
I can't get over how great the special features are. There's one part where it's "Storyboard comparison", and they play the video right next to the storyboard, and switch storyboard panels when the action changes. Pans and zooms and all that stuff, with the storyboard and the actual scene. It's so awesome. There's conceptual art, too, of all the major characters, all the ships, all the weapons, it's just mega.
And you know, everything about that movie is just perfect. The music, of course, is sublime. But those parts where we actually think Faye or Spike is going to die, those scenes are amazing.
Faye's scene, with the butterflies, and her POV with everything fading fast. The first time I saw the movie my heart nearly jumped up into my throat from fear that Faye was going to die, even though I KNEW it couldn't happen. And in both English and Japanese, the voice acting in that scene is awesome.
When Spike is being held out of the tram window, we are absolutely sure that Vincent is not going to shoot him, but he does! That shocked the shit out of me the first time I saw it. I didn't know HOW Spike was going to survive that.
The interaction of the scenes in which Vincent is telling Faye everything and Rasheed is telling Spike everything is beautiful. Jet's little outburst with Ein is a perfect characterization.

We interrupt this post to chuckle quietly to ourselves about muttonchops.
Now back to your scheduled programming.

I kinda wish we had massive Halloween parades like in the movie. But without the terrorism. I guess I forgot all the other things I wanted to say about how great the movie is. If you don't have the DVD, you need it.
But I guess I can take this space and mention the original manga. The only similarity to the series is the characters, environment, and spaceships are the same. The story is completely different. You wouldn't recognize it if not for the characters. So, it's sorta like alternate universe fanfic. The art is different from the anime, but it is SO CUTE. There's a vicious little villain in it, too. He's way more vicious than Vicious. Kinda Marimaya insane. The best part (as with most manga) is the little mini-comic at the end by the artist. There's an adorable picture with Spike in the foreground and SD Jet, Faye, Ed & Ein in the background. The art style is so great, but you really have to be open minded in that it is *not* like the anime. I totally love it, and I'm hoping I get a comic shop gift card so I can go get the other volumes.

I'm not insanedrop trou!

I am just showing off this usericon. It would be appropriate for this post if I had paid for that LJ. I am in love with it. If you are not in love with it because it looks odd on your PC, let me know so I can make it loveworthy.
